Panic in Bengal’s Sainthia: Suspicious Bombs Found Near Railway Tracks; Train Services Briefly Disrupted

A major tragedy was potentially averted on Thursday morning when several suspicious objects, suspected to be crude bombs, were discovered near the railway tracks in the Sainthia area of Birbhum district, West Bengal. The incident led to an immediate suspension of train services on the route, causing brief chaos among commuters.
The Discovery: High Alert Near Sainthia Station
According to local sources, some railway workers spotted a bag containing suspicious circular objects lying close to the tracks between Sainthia and Gadadharpur stations. They immediately alerted the Railway Protection Force (RPF) and the local police.
Within minutes, the area was cordoned off. Considering the sensitivity of the location, the railway authorities decided to stop the movement of trains as a precautionary measure.
Bomb Squad and Recovery Operation
A team from the West Bengal Police's Bomb Detection and Disposal Squad (BDDS) arrived at the spot. Preliminary reports suggest that at least four to five crude bombs were recovered from the site. The experts safely removed the explosives to an isolated area for controlled neutralisation.
Impact on Rail Services
The discovery caused a temporary halt to several local and express trains passing through the Birbhum-Murshidabad section. After a thorough sweep of the tracks and a 'green signal' from the security agencies, train services were resumed after a delay of approximately 45 minutes.
Investigation Underway
The Birbhum district police have initiated a high-level probe into the incident. Investigators are checking CCTV footage from nearby areas and questioning local residents to identify who placed the explosives near the vital transport artery.
"We are investigating all possible angles, including whether this was an attempt to sabotage railway property or a case of miscreants hiding explosives near the tracks," a senior police official stated.
